About

Who we are ?

In light of these challenges, it was necessary to establish an apex body, the Kisan Chamber of Commerce, on the line of the Chamber of Industries.

  • Advocate for Pro-Farmer Policies: Ensure that policies favoring farmers are formulated, pushed, and implemented.
  • Organize Farmers: Unite farmers under a powerful, organized structure to amplify their voices and interests.
  • Enhance Bargaining Power: Strengthen farmers’ position in the market, making them price setters rather than price takers.
  • Promote Sustainable Practices: Advocate for sustainable agricultural practices and resource management.
  • Facilitate Access to Quality Inputs: Ensure availability and access to quality seeds, fertilizers, and agro-chemicals.
  • Improve Credit Access: Work towards better credit facilities and financial support for farmers.
  • Develop Infrastructure: Push for increased public and private investment in agricultural infrastructure.
  • Support Value Addition: Encourage and facilitate value addition in agricultural products to increase farmers’ incomes.
  • Link with Domestic Industries: Foster connections between agriculture and domestic industries for better integration and profitability.

"THE NEED"

Agriculture in India continues to be the crucial sector in terms of livelihood and employment to the sizable rural population. Despite its dominant role in national economy, it faces the serious consequences of shrinking size of land holding, unfinished land reform, degradation of soil and water resources, inadequate institutional credit and mounting debt, decelerating public investment, shortage of a quality seeds, fertilizers and agro-chemicals, exploitation by middlemen, inefficient tardy procurement policy, adverse terms of trade, capital intensive agricultural operations, low value -addition, environmental, climatic, and other natural calamities and faulty agricultural policies. Thus, in the midst of cumulative and highly exploitative set-up loaded against the farmers, agriculture still is a gamble like activity with no adequate and assured reasonable return. Because of the flawed agriculture model, farmers across India are at the receiving end, trapped in the vicious circle of poverty, pushing the farmers either to live in penury at subsistence level or to end their lives under distress. Farmers’ desperation and endless woes, particularly, in case of marginal and small farmers in India are quite visible even to the naked eyes. It is quite unfortunate that much publicized ‘Swaminathan Report’ is yet to be implemented in its true spirit. According the findings of the latest survey “if given a chance, more than 60 percent farmers in the country would prefer any occupation other than farming” is revealing and eye-opener. But then in the absence of opportunities for non farm-employment, farmers have Hobson’s choice. And, therefore, majority of the farmers in agriculture are not by their sweet choice but out of compulsion. Now there is wide-spread feeling among the farmers that they are being discriminated systematically against the corporate, whose massive loans are waved as non-performing assets and are shown all sorts of assistance and favors. This is largely because the corporate are much more organized and united and there are apex bodies like FICCI and its associates such as ASSOCHAM, NASSCOM and other affiliates like CMSME, CII, and IMC to safeguard their interest. Though there are some farmers associations, like SHGs and NGOs as well to espouse the cause of farmers, yet they are not as organized and potent as FICCI and others. In the ultimate analysis, farmers are price taker and not the price setters of what they produce at their village level, and also agriculture is not linked with domestic industries. In view of plethora of farmers’ problems, an apex body ‘KISAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE’ on the pattern of FICCI is established so that pro-farmers policies are well drawn pushed and executed to protect the interest of hapless farmers in the country.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Social responsibility is a means to achieve sustainability. Adopting key social responsibility principles such as accountability and transparency can help ensure the long-term viability and success of any organization or system. The Chamber is taking responsibility and working as a team through collaboration among all stakeholders

RESPECT

You can be part of a community that empowers and supports each other. By treating your companions with courtesy and consideration, you can make a positive contribution to someone else’s experience. Being able to respect each other’s differences creates an inclusive and fun environment to live and work in. Respect is the glue that holds your relationships together. Learn ways to be respectful and know what to do when somebody isn’t respectful toward you.

EMPATHY

Empathy is the ability to emotionally understand what other people feel, see things from their point of view, and imagine yourself in their place. Essentially, it is putting yourself in someone else’s position and feeling what they are feeling. Listening and understanding the feeling and ideas of farmers and others.

INNOVATION

An agricultural innovation system is a network of farmers (individuals, organizations and enterprises) together with supporting institutions and policies in agriculture and related sectors that bring existing or new products, processes and forms of organization to social and economic use. Policies and institutions (formal and informal) determine how these farmers interact and learn together, and how they generate, share and use knowledge.

COLLABORATION

Collaborative farming involves two or more farmers working together in a formal arrangement for the mutual benefit of everyone involved in the arrangement.Economic – a collaborative arrangement can offer farmers increased returns through the ability to achieve scale at lower capital costs; Reduction in recurring costs among farmers and risk sharing.Skills – Possibility to share best farming and business mana gement practices.Social – Joint farming ventures can help address the social challenge of the ‘one man farm’ model by making farming a more attractive business.

SOLUTION

Major reforms and strengthening of India’s agricultural research and extension systems are needed to boost agricultural growth in India. In a diverse and large country like India, there is huge variation in agro-climatic and economic conditions. The same strategy cannot be adopted in all geographical areas to achieve agricultural development. For which great emphasis is needed on the improvement of agricultural research and extension. These services are important in furthering the government’s vision of promoting agricultural development.  Diversification of livelihoods through allied sectors like animal husbandry, forestry and fisheries will help in building resilience and giving birth to a productive tomorrow.

GUIDANCE

It’s a tool farmers can use to map their crops, plan their irrigation, and track their planting and yield data. The system can also monitor weather conditions, soil moisture levels and crop growth. Farmers who use guidance systems can reduce their input costs, increase their yields and improve their overall farm management. Every farmer needs an agricultural guidance system as it helps in crop production, soil management and irrigation. It also helps in record-keeping and marketing. This user-friendly system provides step-by-step instructions, customizable options, and links to resources. It is easy to use and helps farmers and ranchers improve their operations.

FACILITATION

Agribusiness Groups play a facilitating role in the primary industry, working individually and in small and large groups with farmers at all levels, from the farm to the boardroom and at strategic level. As facilitators, we lead and guide discussion groups, seminars and workshops between farmers and industry stakeholders to help them change behaviour, generate their own solutions to problems and increase their knowledge on a topic. Receive support and assistance in building confidence in applying new learning to your situation.

CONSULTANT

Agricultural consultants, sometimes known as agricultural extension service workers, live in rural communities and serve as a resource for farmers on a range of topics from agricultural technology to issues facing the modern rural family. They are by volunteer groups or agriculture departments and agricultural colleges. Agricultural consultants advise farmers on better methods of farming and agricultural practice such as farm management, crop rotation, soil conservation, livestock breeding and feeding, use of new machinery and marketing. They assist individuals wishing to start their own farms, provide the latest agricultural advances to the community, and speak to community or local government groups on agricultural policy issues.
