Structured Practical Framework to Enhance Farmers' Income & Strengthen Agricultural Economy in India (with special reference to Haryana)
Enhancing farmers' income is not merely an economic goal; it is a moral imperative. In our extensive fieldwork across Haryana, we have developed a structured, practical framework designed to transition traditional farming into profitable agri-commerce.
First, the framework emphasizes the reduction of input costs through the adoption of precision agriculture—using drones for localized spraying and soil testing to optimize fertilizer use. Second, it focuses on post-harvest infrastructure. By establishing community-level cold storage and primary processing units, farmers can avoid distress selling.
Third, direct market linkages are crucial. By strengthening Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), farmers can bypass intermediaries and negotiate better prices directly with large buyers. This framework, if implemented with robust policy support, has the potential to double the net income of small and marginal farmers within the next five years.
